Copaken, White & Blitt Sets Sites on Downtown Development Project
Copaken, White & Blitt (CWB) recently announced plans for the future redevelopment of downtown Kansas City block between 12th and 13th Streets, from Grand Blvd. to McGee Street, or Block 112 in the Kansas City, Missouri Central Business District Development Plan. Plans have been submitted to the Kansas City Tax Increment Financing Commission to develop a 320,000 mixed-use office and retail facility, with a 1,300 space parking garage.
The development plan is similar in size and scope to the recently opened Plaza Colonnade building, also developed by CWB. The Block 112 redevelopment is planned to include a 10-story office building with the retail component geared to restaurant and entertainment uses. According to Jon Copaken, a principal with CWB, “Block 112 is a great redevelopment opportunity for the downtown area because of it’s location near the Power and Light District.” Copaken added that, “The redevelopment potential at Block 112 is a natural fit for our company due, in part, to it’s proximity to our other downtown properties – Town Pavilion and 1201 Walnut.”
Redevelopment plans have not been finalized, with several pending considerations including the securing of a major tenant for the project and the current operation of several retail tenants on Block 112. Copaken is aware of the popularity of the tenants located on Block 112, and is eager to see Kansas City icons like Lil’ Jakes preserved in downtown.
