SIOR is gearing up to host the Super Bowl of the local commercial real estate scene: Development Day 2015. The signature annual event is seven months in the making and is stronger than ever with a record number of exhibitors.
Sponsored by JE Dunn and Commerce Bank, Development Day will be held Thursday, September 24 at the Grand Ballroom at the Kansas City Convention Center downtown. The event is free to attend and last year attracted roughly 1,200 professionals.
Ryan Biery, senior vice president at Copaken Brooks and chair of this year's Development Day, said he and his team have been making slight improvements that will now allow for an additional 10 booths and improve traffic flow. Jeff Kembel of JLL serves as co-chair.
"A lot of work goes into planning the event: contacting the different exhibitors, both past participants and reaching out to others to help fill some of the availability we've opened up," Biery said. "Thankfully, it's a good time in the commercial real estate community right now so people are really excited to be a part of it this year."
So why should you attend, aside from the free food and drinks? Biery said it's a one-stop shop to catch up with what's going on in the market.
"Our main mission is to celebrate the business we're all in. From developers to brokers, bankers, attorneys, contractors, architects, engineers, title companies -- everyone has a role in this industry and it's not just celebrating our success but creating new opportunities, too," he said. "You're networking with producers in the market who make things happen, and often there's connections made that lead to new projects."
Development Day co-sponsors include Block Real Estate Services, CBRE, Colliers International, Copaken Brooks, Cushman & Wakefield, Hunt Midwest, Janko Group, Jones Lang LaSalle, Karbank Real Estate, Kessinger Hunter, Lee & Associates, Newmark Grubb Zimmer, NT Realty, Price Commercial Realty, Waterford Property Company, and VanTrust Real Estate.
Admission is free. Parking is also available in the Kauffman Center parking garage, Barney Allis plaza, and the American Hereford Association parking lot. For more information about the event, visit SIOR's website.
