BIOGRAPHY

As Senior Vice President of Property and Risk Management at Copaken Brooks, Mark is a 1.2 billion dollar asset manager with the management responsibility of nearly six million square feet of office, retail, industrial, and condominium assets in Kansas and Missouri.

These responsibilities include: asset management; property management; condominium management; capital planning and project oversight; resolution of legal issues; managing overall tenant relationships including deal work outs; preservation of the physical asset; tenant construction and improvement processes; retail specialty leasing; and property insurance coverage and renewals; property sponsorship functions; and procurement of third-party management contracts. Mark has led Copaken Brooks to be the leader in high-rise asset management and among the top condominium management firms in the Kansas City metro.

Mark began his career with Sprint/North Supply, working in the facilities management division. He later joined Griffin Services as a project manager where he was responsible for the engineering services and operations management of over one million square feet of General Services Administration (GSA) assets. Prior to joining Copaken Brooks, Mark was employed by Kessinger/Hunter and was, responsible for managing the BMA Tower and consulting on new business opportunities as the AVP/Director of Operations.

Mark is a national instructor for the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) and holds the distinction of being a repeat presenter at the annual BOMA conference in 2012 and 2013, where his topics have included Value Generation and Monetizing Assets. Mark is also a founding member and leader in the Kansas City REAP (Real Estate Associate Professional) Program, a national program that serves as a bridge between talented minority professionals and commercial real estate companies looking for talent, where he is a volunteer executive member and an instructor.

Mark was appointed by the Mayor Sly James of Kansas City, Missouri to join the Enhanced Enterprise Zone Board, in 2018, where he currently serves as a member. The Board provides property tax abatement on improvements made to real property to new or expanding businesses that are located in an Enhanced Enterprise Zone. In 2018 and 2019, the Missouri Governor’s Office also selected Mark as a member of the Chief Operating Officer’s Task Force on Fleet Management. This identifies him as one of the industry experts that are brought together to share best practices with representatives of the State of Missouri. The Task Force also develops recommendations to the State regarding cost savings, safety, lowering operating costs, and other improvements.
